The winner of the Russell V. Lee Clinical Teaching Award, Robert Dean Stebbins, M.D., spent two decades teaching at Stanford University, eventually becoming a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the School of Medicine. Dr. Stebbins also functioned as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Robert D. Stebbins, M.D., has been active in other areas at Stanford. He was President and Chairman of the Board for a private physicians’ group and belonged to the Hospital Board Subcommittee on Managed Care. Additionally, he participated in the Hospital Bylaws Committee and chaired the Committee on Residency Training and Clinical Service.
Robert Dean Stebbins, M.D., spent 20 years serving patients through his private practice in Palo Alto, California. He specialized in leukemia and breast cancer treatment and developed a global corporate executive oncologic consultation and internal medicine practice. Dr. Stebbins left his private practice to pursue a career at CardioSynopsis, Inc., where he assumed the position of Research and Development Consultant. The $10 million company developed radiofrequency-cured vascular stents. Along with other medical and scientific professionals, Dr. Stebbins coordinated development of a prototype and directed the successful stent implantation in the carotid arteries of pigs. Robert D. Stebbins, M.D., also reviewed more than 250 patents in search of market potential for microporous membrane and radiofrequency technology.
Afterward, Robert Dean Stebbins, M.D., became a Research Associate with the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He administered protocols for researching mesoporphyrin therapy and glutamine supplementation in underweight infants. He collected data from more than 200 infants during this study.
Over the course of his career, Robert D. Stebbins, M.D., has held a number of hospital appointments. Dr. Stebbins was an Assistant Attending Physician at Harlem Hospital Center in New York and a fellow in oncology through the Department of Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine. Additionally, Robert Dean Stebbins, M.D., functioned as an Assistant Attending Physician at Genesee Hospital in Rochester, New York. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the subspecialty boards of medical oncology and hematology.
